So i have a D16y8 with a knock sensor. If im taking out ECU and putting in a OBD1 chipped ecu do i need the knock sensor ?? I heard the P28's dont allow knock sensors. I just broke my connector off and dont want to replace if i dont have to/........

if its chipped you disable the ks in the logging
well i broke the KS switch well the connector on it, and now debating wether to buy a new one at 185 dollars or if i dont need it then im gonna move on. But i was told the OBD1 ecu doesnt even read a KS so i wouldnt even have to wire it in. I could just have my tuner set the correct timing n go from there right????
just leave it there and move on

saying obd1 doesnt look for a knock sensor is not true. an obd1 p72 looks for a knock sensor. a p28 doesnt look for a knock sensor.
either way, if you are chipping it, you dont need a knock sensor. my machine shop broke mine during machine work and its fine. i just have a cel until i disable it in EMS.

yeah my mechanic did the same thing, he broke mine taking the motor out. and its not a cheap part......So i have a P06 converted vtec and chipped.......so im just gonna leave it alone till i get it tuned.....which is right after i drop the motor in, getting everything fired up n timed then towing down to the tuner......f**kin 3 hrs away!! not looking forward to that one
well, thats better than spending a week rebuilding a blown motor if you dont tune...
im just trying to get this motor put together and installed ASAP. do u think i can do it in one day. The bottom end and head is all torqued down n put together by machine shop. i just gotta throw it on a stand n bolt up everything n drop that sucker in......
