About shift knob/boot

I bought a ghetto shift boot off an eBay seller and I hate it. It has the red stitching but the black part isn't great and the fitment is a lil wacky (partially my fault). So I was looking into getting a type r shift boot off robearracing or something.

My question regards raising the shift boot to meet the shift knob. One way I had in mind was using those bolts with the flat edges on one side and putting that FIRST onto the shifter, then pulling the boot over the shifter so the top plastic piece rests on the bolt then screwing the shift knob down. I figured this way, that bolt will have the boot sit flush against the bottom of the knob without moving.

But the problem I see is, since the bolt and shift boot will be in the way of allowing the knob to go all the way down, will the knob be able to twist off easy? Since I won't be screwing it down all the way nice and snug and instead having it rest on the bolt, won't it just twist about when I shift and stuff?

Ideas?

what about putting a rubberband on the shifter. Just keep twisting it till its really thick to hold the boot up. or even wrapping some electrical tape around it. All you need is something to keep the boot up then you can keep your knob snug and tight.

Only 2 pictures work and they're the same ones. Thank you for the very useful How-To *hints sarcasm*.

And I already read plenty of other ways to hold it up. But I'm seeing any downside to the way I want to try it with the nut.

If you do it your way I think the knob will twist off kinda easy. You aren't gonna be able to tighten it very much without crushing the plastic ring at the top of the shiftboot.

Ah never thought about that plastic ring. Good thinking.

I won't do this until I order the new shift boot but I like finding out info before I do things just to get a heads up. Better to be safe than sorry right.

I heard people used zipties to keep their boot up. Put a couple of them on the shifter, and then the boot over it, or something like that, not sure exactly.

Electrical tape... wrap it at the base of the shifter where the knob screws on, wrap a good amount... put shiftboot on, put knob on and boom

I have a zip tie. Tighten the zip tie under the tip of the boot and slide it up to where you want it to sit. Then cut the tail of the zip tie off. Mine stays there fine.

use a rubber gromet... it will keep it up, is easy as hell to put on (just slpi it on the shifter, then put the bot over it) and cost like 25 cents.
