I could use some of Y'all advice!!

I'm looking at buying my kid his first car. He just got his license and the first thought that came to mind was Civic. Seems to be lots of low priced parts and they seem built well enough.

I have looked at a few hashed out Tuner? cars that sucked ass. I guess around here tuner car means incomplete with the check engine light on and an unpainted body kit!

Anyhow...Are the 96-00 cars the better versions when we are talking about higher mileage cars?

Is this the year range he can easily buy aftermarket stuff for?

These little cars cost a ton. Found a 96 thats clean as heck that I think I want to get him. Its gonna be a suprise.

Are the 96's good cars?

This is a 96' that just 100,000 miles. Sellor has recipt for new motor 10K ago as the other one blew up. Fresh paint. Really a nice little car. Whats it worth?

in all honesty, i payed more for my car than 2500 to 3000. i would expect to pay a little more for one. i put of $3,000 for mine and it had 100,000 miles on it.
how many miles are on the new engine?

Those are what most would call a ricer. I'm thinking the guy wants around $5000 for that 96. Low ball him to death.

Bingo. The Dude thinks he wants $4500.00....Ummmm NOT!

10,000 miles. Legit with documentation. AC blows ice cold, monsterous stereo, Yada, Yada...... I guess my question should be are the 96's considered bad years, good years or indifferent?

This car is weird. But likeable at the same time The interior is done up in Louie Vattan. Fvckin thing is riced out pretty bad eh?

If it checks out to be solid is it worth $3800.00? Its the cleanest one I have seen for that price range. They are all beaters up here in colorado or they want 8-9 grand for em....8 Grand for a 2001 Civic? WTF its a fvcking Civic not a Porsche for chrissakers!

I'm handy with a wrench...And handier yet tuning in EFI on my laptop as my thing is this thing. Lots of wrenching, lots of tuning. Way too much money!!

Oddly enough my kids Half Korean and looks and acts essentially like a smart little Asian kid. I think the car fits his whole persona in a weird way? Its a suprise. I still havent decided......Depends on what you guys say about 96's? if they suck ballasacks or if they are cool!!

omg, please don't buy that car for him. The exterior is nice and fine, but the interior looks like a bag of symbols threw up all over the place. My suggestion would be to buy him a nice clean civic with little or no modification done to it so he can do it all himself. Doing is the best way to learn.

And that bike is badass.

If i were you I would look around a little more, i paid 4500 for my 99 sedan with 185k miles on it, but the car looks and drives like it has less than half that on it. Honda's are always on the higher price side because they last forever with proper care. In my opinion that car is HIDEOUS!! just look around a little and try to find something mostly stock in appearance. good luck

The interior wins douche bag of the year award for sure....I'm looking at 3 others tomorrow.

Whichever one I end up buying I'll be doing the moddage. Hence. I'll be here for a while Gents!!

I drive an 05 4x4 Ram truck with a Cummins Diesel and some choice fuel management, exhuast and intake mods and my wife has a new 09' Tacoma TRD sport 4x4 truck.

I kinda want to d**k around with whatever I get him and see what I can do tho....Something kinda exciting about buying an old beater to tweak on I guess!

find a stock one for way cheaper. this way, if he wants to customize it himself, it would be his heart's desire, not some ricer's.

also, you'll have a project to work on if you and him want to do upgrades such as suspension and whatnot.

my two cents.

thats basically the best gen for mods. get one that isent modded i can garentee that car has had the s**t driven out of it. interior is terrible but exterior is nice aside from eyelids. a car with 100,000 miles thats been driven like that one prolly has is on par with a stock one with 200,000 miles lol

Colorado Springs eh?

There are TONS of CLEAN cars for sale locally throughout Colorado.

Honestly, anything 96-00 is about the best year range for a stock civic with SOME balls (very large emphasis on SOME). Previous gen, 92-95's are good reliable grocery getters in stock form, and that's about all their good for. Obviously the new ones were designed for the same intent, but technology helps.

I would have to agree with other posts, look for a CLEAN stock one and have your son get on here for some guidance in the proper direction to go.

There are also a couple local colorado forums with good deals on properly modded cars that have been done right (obviously a little more money). www.milehighracing.com and www.highaltitudeimports.com are the two main ones.

If your son plans to get into the modding of things, and the go fast aspect then even a 92-95 (cheaper) in good shape would be a great starting platform!

Heres a couple links to a few decent starting platforms (negotiate prices a little)
http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1299404484.html
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1298065554.html

This one is a killer deal:
http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1298729679.html

The only real differences from 96-98 models to 99-00 models is a few aesthetic changes in the headlights, fenders, bumpers, hood and misc. interior trim pieces. It's better to start from a stock, clean base platform so when you start modding it you KNOW everything is done how you would expect it/want it to be done.

You could also look into Integra's.

I'd give $3800 for it. But I'd for sure put some different wheels on it, the red lip and blue calipers and drums are just clashing. This car isn't completely riced out, looks as if it may have been a show car, Interior would look decent without the headliner and just the seats, no leather, and not blue. But the best thing to do is to find one that's completely stock, that way when he looks at his car he'll know it's his. Just always low ball, the car I bought was listed for $4750, the week before it'd been $5000, my dad offered him $3800 he took it.

If I were in your shoes I would buy a bone stock car that way if your son decides to mod it, he can do it the way he wants and be proud of his work. Just my two cents though. Good luck

yeah, try to buy something with little or no mods. If you can find a STOCK civic that's been well taken care of then the miles on it shouldn't matter. If you open the hood and see a caftermarket intake then it's probably been beaten on. Not only that but if you find a stock civic then you can probably get it for cheaper than what some stupid ricer wants to sell his beat up civic for. ;)

i recently purchased an immaculate 2000 civic lx with 150,000 for $4000.
u should easily be able to get a 96 for $2500.

please do your research before u do any modifications.
