Someone's giving me a used AEM V1 CAI for my 97 EX but the filter needs replacing so I'm gonna buy a new one. I figure this is a good opportunity to buy a monster huge K&N with the extra filter top (for even more flow). But I'm worried that a bigger filter just may not fit in the fender area.

Has anyone done this? How big did you buy and any troubles fitting? Did it help with the bigger filter?

I never replaced mine, so I'm not sure if it will fit.
But are you sure it needs replacing, not just cleaning?

Yeah, my filter needs replacing... because it's GONE.. hah!

But seriously, it's because I got the AEM CAI used from a guy who did a turbo install. He gave the filter away a long time ago to another friend. I figured, I'd take the CAI and just by a K&N replacement.

So, can someone measure the dimensions of their filter for me? I need to know:

- diameter of the base of the filter
- inner diameter of the flange (the rubber that connects to the pipe)
- length off the filter, not including the flange

How much room do you have in the bumper? I'd like to buy a longer, wider filter than the original for even more (good) suck. Ha!
