well im thinkin about getting this head unit
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-kK6SSpvaBOY/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=500CDE9843
but my friend says if i get it i would have to get another amp to run my speakers, right now i dont have the money to afford that because i just bought subs, an amp, wires and a lot of supplies to build a custom enclosure. but i also bought a line out converter so i could hook my subs to my stock headunit. so will i be able to run that head unit and not have to get an amp to power my stock speakers?

you will be fine.. that deck only have one pair of rca which is for rear/sub output. your interior speakers will need to be run by deck.

you can turn it up loud, just not overduing it ya know, i ran my stock speakers for a while before i picked up my bostons and they are still good to this day, the stockies just don't take as much power as an aftermarket set, and you dont' want to overpower them, you'll be fine w/ that set up for a while, i'll get ya some pics later on tonight, and what year do you have, cause if you want it i'll give ya the dash mount kit w/ it for 5 bucks more

16 watts rms is fine for factory Honda speakers. In fact you'll probably actually overpower them. If they are still using the same crap Pioneer 6.5s they were using in 94 Civics and 96 Integras then 16 rms will blow that s**t the hell up. Blowin' a speaker is a pretty good excuse to go get some quality speakers so I wouldn't worry too much.

stock speakers cant even handle 16 watts? are you sure? that seems really low

Give it a couple of years. That foam surround will rot out.

My pathetic Aiwa CDC/Z137 on my Civic EX blew the paper cone and voice coil completely out of the basket when the foam got old :rolf:

wow thats surprising, my friend said that i would need to find an amp or a head unit that pumps 52x4 watts (I guess not lol). so that head unit would be good for a while? how fast will it blow my speakers? and how much would it be overpowering it. sorry about all the questions i just wanna know for sure that it will be ok before i buy it cuz i dont know s**t about audio.

well a head unit that has 50x4 is putting out around 22rms and at FULL volume 50w, lil less w/ lower volume, like i said you'll be fine for a long time as long as you don't run it full volume all the time w/ a lot of bass running to those speakers, that panasonic i'm talking about is a 50x4 w/ 3 pre-outs and the sub preout is on a seperate channel, so the bass adj you do to your mids and highs won't affect the subs, (it has a seperate sub control) i wouldnt' worry about it, your not gonna blow the stockies in one day but they could get bad throughout time, by then you will have already changed em for something diff, like i said i still have my stockies in perfect condition
