i have a 95 ex and i bought a wiring harness to hook up my pioneer deh-p6400. my friend did all the splicing right and everything hes hooked up a ton of headunits. so he hooked it all up right and plugged in the harness to the original radio thing like u r supposed to do and then he turned the car on and it cmae on for like 5 seconds and shut off. now since then my brother cut and re-spliced all the wires twice and my other friend also did it once whihc makes a total of 3 times these wires have been re-spliced. i checked all the fuses tons of times and today i even replaced the radio fuse under the dash and the fuse in the back of the headunit just to make sure. still no luck. i wanted to make sure it wasnt somthing further down the line from the headunit so i plugged in the old tape player and it worked. what is wrong with this stupid pos. its making me mad that i cant even get a freakin headunit to work. if this isnt clear enough let me no il try to be more detailed but if n e 1 nos what i should do or what happend please let me no cuz its a really nice headunit. id hate to see it go to waste. is it possible somthing inside the headunit got fried or disconnected or sumthing? o yea and the only wire not hooked up is the "mute" wire becauuse there is no place to hoook it into the harness. plz help me asap.

then the only other thing i can think of is either your brother and friend wired something wrong or theres a possible short in the harness.

or the radio got shorted out.. i mean if its old.. you might just end up buying a new one... take it to a audio show NOT BEST BUY OR CIRCUIT CITy.. and get it installed...

unless the deck is from 1992 it didnt short out

if the fuses are fine then it must be wiring, double check it I guess, or maybe you aren't twisting the wires tight enough so when you jam the deck in they separate

i havent even put the deck in yet i just hooked it up and held it and it stil didnt work so it couldnt be from the wires coming apart. how can i tell if the radio is fried? can i open it up and see? and where else cna i take it besides Best Buy or Circuit City cuz they r the only 2 places around here besides Tweeter and they r outragesly expensive on installs.

if it's not powering up on the bench test, and all of the fuses are fine.... the deck is fried. simple as that.
it'd cost more to repair than to replace

but arent the fuses the first to go before the deck is fried?

usually, but if you short out the remote wire then it will usually insta-fry your deck.... kinda weird.

maybe

just take it to a shop
:werd:
although most shops will just do a bench test and tell you it's broken and try to sell you something new

did you check the fuse in the fuse panel under the hood? it should be labeled back up and be a 7.5 amp fuse. that the fuse for your constant power.

no, cause that one is the fuse that keeps all the pre set radio stations stored when you turn off the car.
