Air Fuel Controllers

My Civ has an idleing problem ever since I installed a cold air intake. I figer its the air/fuel ratio. I know i should buy an air fuel controller, but all the ones ive seen are permanently mounted inside the car. Are there any units that I can plug in, re-program the air/fuel ratio, and remove it? I would like to use it on other vehicles if I make the investment, I could turn a small profit doing tune-ups. Any response is apprieciated. Thanks.

try resetting your ECU before buying an A/F controller. disconnect the battery cable for a few minuets and then see if the car still has a low idle problem.

Like wannabe said, you should reset the ecu before you go dumping money into somethign you may not need...

Ok, I'll try that, but if it doesnt work, are there any other ways to correct an idle problem? The idle is fine on start up, but it starts to pulseate once the car has warmed up. I heard "crome" is better than AFC's. What is "crome", how do I use it, and can it cure my idle? Many thanks.

i dont' get why your gonna get EFI stuff for a Cold Air Intake.... it could jsut be a number of things such as IACV or FITV or dirty throttle body.... clean the stuff and all but make sure u kno what ur doin...

a "cold air" intake will not improve performance enough to need an adjustment on your air/fuel ratios....

It is very very unlikely that a cold air intake will cause the car to have issues when running on the stock ecu. So if the problem was not there at all before, then I would double check everything that was touched on the install. Now I would say there is a possibilty that the intake could make a past minor issue a bit more obvious.

But definitely dont get any thing else like an air fuel controller or crome or any other ems, as this will still exist in those as well. Also there is no such "programmer" that you can just plug in adjust and unplug for our cars.

it's not likely to be a vacuum leak if it only happens when the car is fully warmed up. a vacuum leak normally causes the idle to bounce around at any temperature.

as stated, you do not need to retune just from adding a cold air intake.

likely culprits are your iacv, or fitv. do a search on how to clean those out or tighten the fitv. if that does not solve your issue, go through the helms/haynes procedure for setting a proper idle. it discusses a procedure to test and check all the components associated with idleing and how to set them properly
