Air only blowing through feet vents - suggestions?

Hey everyone, I own a 2000 Civic EX and recently developed a problem with my cooling system. The air for heat/AC only passes through the feet vents. When I change the air controls to blow through the face vents or defrost, the air still passes through the feet vents only. SOME air passes through the face vents, but it's obviously not what it should be.

My guess is that either the electrical switch that controls the direction of air flow is not working properly or some solenoid that changes the pathway the air takes is stuck/broken. Has anyone encountered this problem before? I searched the forum for other threads about this, but no luck.

Thanks in advance for any help.

mine does the same thing... to make the defrost work you have to hit the A/C button and it will blow better through your defrost vents. make sure you just have the defrost button on

Great advice.....

I am switching the knob that controls the fan. I rotate it between the different vent settings and it still only blows air through the feet vents no matter what setting it's on. There must be something that re-directs the air to the other vents that is not kicking in properly.

Thanks for the info =)

My main problem is getting the air to blow through the face vents, although I'd like the front defrost to work too. I know it's either the fan switch that is messed up or the mechanism that re-directs the air that won't kick in. I might actually have to take it to the local shop, as much as I hate to.
