Alpine type R 6 1/2 speaker problems

So I bought these 6 1/2" alpine (type r, 2 way, 250w) speakers (info:http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14757). But the speakers wont fit into the hole in the door panel. The screws on the outer part of the speaker do line up with the holes on the door panel, though.

There was an included adapter ring thing, but it doesn't seem to fit (on my 99 Si).

Sorry if this is a dumb question or if I'm not explaining this very well, but is this something where I should cut into the door panel a little bit so the speaker will fit, or am I missing something?

yes...you are going to have to cut the door panel...or downsize to 5.25s...

yup, you'll have to shave down the inner panel where the speaker sits in. make sure the magnet of the speaker doesn't hit your window when it comes down either.

Okay, so I installed the speakers, and I had to use a ring adapter because the holes didn't match up. But the stock speaker grills dont fit now, so I guess Ill use the ugly alpine ones. Also, Im pretty sure that the magnet is in the way the window, is there like a "step out" ring type thing I can get so the speaker isnt set back so far?

Are the Type R's magnet that big? Try rolling down the window and see if it hits your speaker. If you still have room, try grinding down the the ring adaptor so you can put the stock cover over it. If not, you can try grinding down the inner stock cover so it will fit over the speaker.

Btw, the holes on a aftermarket radio don't usually match the factor holes so u can to drill into the panel. Good luck.
