yes agreed....and JL is prolly better quailty but more expensive alpine is what i would look in to....jl is just to expensive and not worth the price half of the time...MySiIzFaster said:Stay away from Kmart (Jensen) and you will be fine...
That alpine they have been discussing in the 2 posts above will work well.. Just turn the gain down a smidge.
If you want an awesome amp the JL 300/4 is awesome and puts out about 400watts but I've toasted some nice speakers on this amp so it really depends on how much power you want. However I would stay away from alpine, there are better amps even the JL e-class amps are better.civster1285 said:If you have the cash, I would recommend a JL or Alpine 4 channel amp
They arent over priced, they are a very good product. My amp has survived a really bad car accident where it came in direct contact with a guard rail and it still works great! Plus if you know the right people, such as the head of the audio department at the local major car audio dealer, its not over priced at all!Panathrasher said:but avoid JL Amps, they are overpriced and too much hype.
what does that have to do with amping speakers?Chaos said:JL is overpriced....the 12" JL W7 is like 500-700 dollars...and it handles 1000 watts rms....the RE XXX is around 500 and its a 15" that can handle 1600 watts rms
Pound for pound Eclipse amps are cleaner sounding than Alpine at a better price, you're not paying for the name. In the end what you want is an amp that puts out about 35 - 50 watts RMS per channel, ignore peak numbers. You'll want to look for an amp with a low THD (Total Harmonic Distortion). You also want to look for something with a low signal to noise ratio. All of the manufacturers mentioned in this forum (Eclipse, Alpine and JL) are quality amps and will not dissapoint you. As you can see by the postings we all have our personal preferances so do a little web research and listening in stores and buy what you like best.Akiahara96 said:first off, there are many things that beat Eclipse in sound quality.
Secondly, the JL isn't the best choice. You don't need that much wattage. So you're gonna pay a lot for a 'better' amp to power mediocre speakers... that makes NO sense. Not to mention, you're going to overpower them... so go with something smaller. The Alpine is better suited than the JL, or the eclipse.
You do pay for the Eclipse name. Alpine amps are cheaper. If you compare the price of the 4 channell v-12 @ 50x4 with a reatil of $399.99 to Eclipses $1000.00 4 channell I think I would take the alpine.Panathrasher said:Pound for pound Eclipse amps are cleaner sounding than Alpine at a better price, you're not paying for the name. I don't know where the hell you're shopping but you should look around. I only paid $400.00 for my Eclipse 4 channel amp that puts out 85W X 4 RMS.Considering that it puts out 35 more watts per channel than the Alpine you just quoted at the same price I'd say that the Alpine just got blown out of the water. Also, I bought my Eclipse from an authorized dealer not some cheezy website or Ebay so all manufacturers warranties are included. Where are your Alpines coming from???snoopy316 said:You do pay for the Eclipse name. Alpine amps are cheaper. If I was going to shell out that kind of cash I would go with something that I know would leave Eclipse in the dust. ZAPCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With the price Eclipse is throwing on their high end amps they are trying to claim they are in the same relm as Zapco McIntosh and Brax. Unfortunately they are very good amps but not that good. I would actually rather have a Class A Soundstream amp
Okay, I followed your links and still don't see your point. The Alpine site lists the MSRP at $500, Eclipse did not lost their MSRP so I did a little web hunting. At www.al-eds.com you can find both amps. The cost of the Eclipse is $329, the price of the Alpine is $449, you do the math. $120 more for the same performance, you are paying for the name.snoopy316 said:I beleive eclipse is also running their rms at 14.4 volts.
Either way, I have never liked eclipse whatsoever. I would take the alpine any day, but I dont have to worry about amps I went with Zapco
anyways here are the comparisons of the alpine to the eclipse

each amp is almost identical in power and price. EXCEPT the amp link control and the true digital tuner that alpine offers
