Another code P1399 problem.

Hello,

I've been chasing a problem with our 2000 Civic EX. 1.6L SOHC

First we had intermittent rough running. Some days it ran fine others not so much. Shut off the car and restart usually cured it.

Yesterday no cure.

Went down the list of tests and fixes. Had codes showing CKP/TDC failure, P1359 P1300, P1302, P1303, P1304 and the dreaded P1399.

Started with a plug check. Found number one plug to be damaged and even rusty looking.

Did a compression test...all cylinders were within 5 pounds with no notable leak down.

Changed plus and wires since they had been on the car for a while.
No fix. Now the car would not even start.

I ended up checking distributor parts and found possible troubles So i replaced the distributor.

Now the car runs and the codes cleared. But there seems to be a bit of a stutter every 10 -15 seconds.

The CEL is no longer on...but when I plug in the scanner it stills shows a P1399 code..ugh :evil:

I have checked the injectors with the meter and they all seem electrically sound. the car dies if I unplug any one injector....

I am going to check the timing when I can get a light from a buddy.

I'm stumped....Help!

We'll on a obd2, you don't really have to check the timing. I had the same problem, but I replaced the distributer and solved the problem. It was the cylinder positioning sensor inside the distributer. In ur case I might try resetting the idle memory. To do this you should start the car cold and hold the rpms at exactly 3000. Ether for 5 minutes or until cooling fan comes on. You might need another person with u to here the cooling fan. If u have a manual it goes into slightly more detail on how to do this.

Ok...found the 'cure' ...apparently the actual cure was in the distributor. After we changed the dizzy all should have been well.
BUT...

This is embarrassing:oops::oops:

(Cautionary tale follows)

There were two of us working on this thing. It seems that when we changed the dizzy we accidentally crossed plug wires to cylinders one and two...they were so close to the same length, I guess we just mucked it up.

After double checking everything and checking the plug wire order.....dammit. :brickwall:

So...all's well. Just double check everything...by yourself...

Thanks for the suggestions. but I have found that it runs quite well with the plug wires in the right spot.

:oops::oops:
