So I got my free walmart amp and my poewr bass 10" installed just fine, It hit ok for a 10 in a buick on a walmart amp. Then my headunit broke(the clip that holds the face plate on broke off), so I got a Pioneer headunit with a nice generic preout, well I get it all hooked up and the sub dos not hit as hard anymore. Its more blurred, I checked the specs on my old headunit and the preouts were both plain preouts and not sub preouts. I have also gone through all my settings in my new headunit and it still just does not sound the same. What is going on here???

it's the difference in the deck

how many sets of outputs do you have?
and what set is your amp connected to?

if i were you, i'd just find a deck with sub preouts

well you could buy an external crossover.... that would turn your one set of preouts into 2 or 3 or more with seperate controls for each

OR what you could do is buy caps for your surround speakers, run them inline, and then turn the bass up on the deck and run a bass coil inline to the sub

the caps dont let bass through to the surround speakers so they wont distort, and the bass coil only allows the low frequencies to go to the sub so you wont get muffled voices or anything like that... it wont work as well but it will work and should only cost a few bucks

I have bass blockers on my front 4" stock speakers when i put new 6X9s in the back, so thats only 2 I would need, but i am looking at crossovers now. but are active or passive better? sorry for all the noob questions, I am doing alot of googling
