so some nights while out cruising around or while driving through town for shits and giggles i like to shift without using the clutch. i figured it out a long time ago and it's pretty easy but i recently got the notion to try down shifting without the clutch. now i downshift all the time and i tend to rev-match, personally i believe thats the only way to do it, plus heel-toe is fun. anyways i was on my favorite back road, its pretty twisty with lots of elevation changes, and coming up on my favorite section. but i tried to heel toe without the clutch. now it may not've been perfect at first but i found it's pretty easy to master and now i do it whenever i get the chance. i don't know maybe i'm dumb, it's probably not the smartest or safest thing to do either but has anyone else tried this? i'm sure theres no performance benefits, but i just thought i'd share. after some pratice i can now change into any gear, up or down without my clutch. i don't know i though it was cool.

You're just figuring this out? lol no offense. But I figured this out when I first drove a manual car when I was 16.

i guess you can save your clutch if you just rev match your gears :what:

no i've been doing it for a while now, i first figured out how by necesity when my first hydo clutch went out on me. after reading that "power shifting" post it made me think of it a thought id share it.i've since perfected it but it's just for fun. i never hear anyone talk about it and i think people should try it and learn for themselves incase the problem ever hapens to them. i dont know:oops:. i didn't get my own manual trans car till about 5 years ago when i bought my first honda...er well acura. a 95 4 door integra, god i miss that car. i've always had trucks and crap before that, and most of them were autos.

So you never use your clutch to shift? I don't see this ending well.

flat shifting is not where you don't use the clutch... it's where you shift without letting of the throttle aka "no lift shift"

rev matching is a good thing to know how to do well, and so is heel toe, but you still want to use your clutch because your putting un-needed stress on your trans and syncros when you do this.

i heel toe and rev-match in the twisties and just before sweeping turns because there are SOME performance gains but thats about it. otherwise i drive like i normally would.

its called floating gears and truckers do it all the time but their transmissions are different.

i dont suggest this on ur civic.
it will f**k up the synchros and u will be getting a rebuild soon...

wow... no, i dont do it all the the time , just for fun, amusement if you will, lazyness even. i do use my clutch. i realize its not really good for your trans. i didnt know it was actually called something else, but i knew truckers do it. i completely understand what rev-matching/ heel-toe is and how, why and when to use it. thats not what i was trying to get at. just useless information i thought id share in a moment of severe boredom at work. totally didnt think it'd turn into this, i try not pretend or claim to know anything, just enough to get me in trouble...aparently, haha at least now i feel like a scolded dog, sweet! haha hopefully some one can get something usefull from this, lol
