Antenna problems

i have a 98 civic dx coupe, now i got an aftermarket radio and i plugged the antenna into its spot but it doesnt want to work and it was hard to put it cause i didnt even come out the whole way does anyone know of a similar problem or whats goin on cause it gets frustrating

In my 95 my radio wouldn't work as good as it did with the stock deck.
