So got these speakers for my car: Eclipse SC8264 and when I went to get some dynomat the guys at my local shop told me its not possible to install that speaker into that car. They said its to deep and will hit the window when it comes down... can I mount this speaker in the door (2 and 7/8 inches deep)???? I really like this speaker.... not to mention it cost me 300 bones

you can make a spacer for it.... it should work just fine assuming the diameter isnt way too big
anythings possible with a little work, i put 8" subs in the doors of my 2g eclipse and it ended up looking nearly stock :what:

Compare the speakers currently in the car with your new ones and see how much of a difference there is. if its the same you will have no problem. i had to do a little cutting to get mine to fit but the window goes down just fine.

yeah, hmmmm if you got JL XR's in the front of your civic with spacers I think I might be able to squeeze my speakers into my eclipse's in there too... think you could take a pic of your set up and/or tell me alittle more about what you had to do?

a spacer is just a ring (made from whatever material you use) that mounts inbetween the speaker and the metal . the farther your speaker sticks out, the less it sticks in :what:
usually a 1/4 inch spacer works fine made from wood, just cut a ring of wood that's just large enough to fit your speaker through, then mount the speaker/spacer and screw it in... REALLY easy.

like i said, i fit an 8" sub into the doors of my old mitsu eclipse and you couldnt even tell without taking off the door panel.

8" image dynamics subs + 2 image dynamics horn tweeters ownz all other seperates
really loud and INCREDIBLY crisp sound

I'll look into that... I know what a spacer is, now its just a matter of getting s**t taken care of. My shop wanted to trade me some Focal speakers but I wanted to keep the speakers and headunit all eclipse and not all miss matched.

you can even modify the OEM speaker basket in allot of cases... that's currently what i have done in my teggy and girls civic to fit larger speakers in the doors

Their advertised mounting depth is only 2 7/8ths. The basket is pretty wide though.

I'd go to a better shop. The fact that your installer said, "you can't" tells me he's not willing to try. A simple mdf space ring would probably be sufficient.

do you think there is enough space in the door panal between the speaker cover to allow for a spacer of 1 inch? They want to trade me Focal Access 6 1/2 components that mount 1 inch shallower. They can install them but they need to "mod" the door. Fiberglass pods are way to expansive too, but I'll call and talk to them again...

You just cut out the weather protecter in the door, that will give you more depth. Then put in the spacer. Should work.

1 inch spacers are too big. u wont be able to use the speaker cover. my spacers are about 3/8 thick and i can barely put the stock covers on.

there's parts on the inside of the stock speaker cover that you can shave off sometimes to fit in there....
but it wont always work

and yeah... i think 1" is too big as well without other modifications

Okay, I can install these by myself I decided... so heres what I can do, pay $200 to install the eclipses into my doors. Or trade them for Focal Access series that are very "compairable" according to my dealer, they are also a retail of $350, and only pay $120 for install. I can also get a "door kit" that they put together from dynomat and thats $70 installed and goes around the speaker mounting space and the entire inside of the door. So, 270 for eclipses with dynomat, 200 W/O, 190 for focals with dynomat, or 120 W/O. What do people think?

how about install them urself. its not hard. all u need to do is remove the door panel and cut that whole plastic peice that is on the back of the speaker location. then just make some cut some rings. i use cardboard and made rings out of it and wasted like half a roll of my 3m tape wraping up the ring. theres no insulations problem with my rings kinda ghetto but it works.
