Well in NJ, if the car came with an airbag and you replace it with a non air bag unit, you won't pass inspection.

its illegal anywhere to tamper or disable factory airbag systems.

I don't think you get fined but you'll have to fix it to pass inspection and if you dont pass inspection than you have to deal with that or if its a cop that sees you might get a fix it ticket

ca dont care my boy had a 95 240 and he took the airbags out ... didnt even get new plates to put over em just had a gaping hole in the steering wheel and s**t and still was fine, he got pulled over for modified exhaust all the time and the airbag was never mentioned, rest of the car was really gutted as well

a tech at my shop mentioned some kind of rediculous fine. somthing like 25,000. i dont know if i smoked to much that day, or hes serious.

i went through all of ohio's revised code, and due to the tedius nature of such a job, i gave up.

this brings us to the question of getting into an accident without an airbag. dont the "authorities" have full reign on your vehical at that point?

ive had so many cops in, near, inspecting my car in its life time and i have SO MANY "illegal" things but the truth of the matter is not a single one has EVER cared about that s**t.. they will stop me for no front plate, and ignore the cage, missing air bags, and 10lb tank of nitrous riding in the back seat.. well the nitrous IS legal.. lol but you get my point... its kind of funny that they focus on that front plate and ignore everything else.. lol

I bet if you got into an accident and was found that you intentionally removed your bags, insurance would find a way NOT to cover you.

exactly my point.

were talking a 5th degree felony here on the second offence. they give you a break on the first one though.

C) Whoever violates division (B) of this section is guilty of improper replacement of a motor vehicle air bag, a misdemeanor of the first degree on a first offense. On each subsequent offense, the person is guilty of a felony of the fifth degree.
