OK maybe thats not the correct term but I attatched a picture. When I have my rims on I rub every once in a while, no big deal. Just curious if anyone has taken it off and if you had any problems as a result? Does that cause alot of road debris (i.e water, mud) to get into the engine bay?

Nope. Just about the only thing keeping the filter for my CAI nice, clean, and dry is that flimsy piece of plastic.

i wouldn't recommend taking that off... i used to rub that as well so much that it rubbed a hole right through it... but it was only that spot... not a big deal... but if you take it off... that might be more of a problem... i believe that piece is what holds the lower plastic piece in place... so if you take it out.. not only will water/debris get in the bay... but the lower plastic piece might hang down and rub agains the ground... plus.. on the right side you would get water and debris on the CAI you have..

Yeah didnt think of the CAI :smackself: all i was thinking about was the top, but I suppose if i do wear a hole through i can just buy some plastic and replace it. I wasnt considering taking it out, just curious if anyone did anything unique under there

hehe.. yea.. its not even worth buying plastic to replace it.. the hole shouldn't get too big.. maybe like half inch to a inch where your tire rubs..

you can replace the whole plastic piece.. that might cost more than you would want to spend... ;)

Dont recommend

I went around for a year whithout a fender liner b/c when I first got my intake i could not get the liner back on. I actually went to the dealership today and got a brand new one. Thats the only problem with the CAI. I had a buddy that said he used to take off his bumper to get to the intake, I dont know if this is a better way.
Personally, I wouldnt screw with it unless you have the patience and the tools.
Good Luck.

mine is off, my car is too low. it was hella rubs, especially after a camber kit. i have no problem with my CAI, i have a Injen heat sheild that just dont block the heat, but block out most of the dust, dirt, mud, little water that the tires throw at it. its easier for me to take off my intake, its only about a 10min process to switch from cai to stock or stock to cai. the only downside is that it gets dusty and dirty in there, but thats just little cleaning.

personally, i think taking off the plastic liner is just a trainwreck waiting to happen... im sure there are ways to work around it, or just live with the rubbing...

Yep leave it on! I hate the rubbing too but the Cons of removing it outweigh the Pros.

It's called a splash guard. I don't think anyone addressed that.

yeah i have an ingalls camber kit, i think thats why some people might not have as big of a problem. My tires are perfectly straight in the front. Also it has to do with the offset on my rims (i forget what it is) but they kinda stick out a lil more than some others ive seen
