My father was an Engineer in the Army, my uncle was a helicopter pilot for the Marines. My oldest brother is unable to join due to medical reasons, but I doubt he would anyways. I'll be joining the Coast Guard within this year.

I thought about Army, follow in my dad's steps, but Army wouldn't really benefit me after I got out of it. Plus, I work on Fort Lewis and a lot of the MP's I talk too say USCG would be my better bet with doing law enforcement.

Maybe a suggestion, instead of this being just an Army thread, why not make it a Armed Forces thread?

nd yea ive thought about the airforce too ive always been intrigued by fighter planes and what not..b20 spirit bomber nd yea...but bad eye sight could be a prob there...

Being a pilot would be cool too, but you also have to be pretty smart. Only thing I dislike with the Air Force is their attitudes. They seem to have a, "I'm better than you," attitude. At least, the ones I've dealt with. Nonetheless, they do some crazy stuff.

Whichever you choose, make sure it benefits you after you get out of the service though. A lot of people don't do that.

I'm 16, at the current time I plan on joining the Marines right out of highschool.

I like being in college, but it's not for me. The school I'm going to is $20,000 a semester and I just can't see myself staying here for 4 years.

I told my Coast Guard recruiter I wanted to be in the DOG and be sent to Iraq's gulf. He smiled. Made me feel all warm inside, no homo.

Some people can caught it, some can't. If you don't think you can handle it, look into a different job for the Army or a entirely different branch. Don't worry if your family was all in the Army. Its your life, you choice. They'll accept and respect your choice. In the end, all branches share one goal, to defend this country.

Grandfather, was in the Navy in WWII. I am in the Navy as a Seabee, heading to Afghanistan Dec. 4th actually. And definitely, if you're close to finishing college, do that first then go officer.

I'm an Army Engineer and I love it. I had been thinking about all the services before I ended up joining last year. I'll be heading over to Afganistan around this time next year. Its definitely good to be in the Army.
