I sold my friend my hatch and a couple weeks before i sold it to him my subs cut out on me one day drivin home. I checked fuses and all kinds of things and couldnt find anything. The amp came on but not bass so i didnt really get into checkin out much i assumed the amp tapped out on me since i had it since 03. Well i was puttin my friends gear into the car i sold him and the same s**t happend. I put in his cd player, amp and 2 12's. His actually had some sound coming from them but its really weak and the only way u can notice it is when i crank the gain all the way, which u know somethin is not right when u have to do that. I changed out the rca's for brand new ones it got a lil better but not enough to call it fixed. I re-did the ground wire the old one looked like s**t ans the screw was actually rusted, so that got fixed but still nothing. Im not a noob to this but im stumped. I fixed all the settings on the cd player and amp and check all that out. The only thing i can think of is the wiring????? I have no crossed wires, and u cant tell that the subs r workin unless u put ur hand on them to feel the vibration or put ur head next to them to hear a lil hum its a joke. Any hell would be appreciated thanx in advance...........

I have this problem from time to time whenever I remove and reinstall my amp. It's usually a hook up issue. My sub is bridged and I usually end up hookin it up in the dark so I fasten the speaker outputs in the wrong slots. This probably isnt your problem, but may be worth looking into. You may want to check your power and remote wire's to make sure you have enough power running through them. I have my remote wired to my ignition so I know theres enough power. I have heard of people hooking it up to a cigarette lighter and getting distortion or low power.

Im guessing the sub's are fine since this is the second incident he has had with this problem. Most likely a connection issue.

check the ground to the vehicle and make sure it is grounded to a clean peice of metal free of rust. Check that no speaker wires are being pinched

my subs cutout hardcore when my ground was bad. Check that.

Also, my speaker wire going from the subs to the amp were loose at the amp end. If you have to, strip back and try again with some new/fresh/clean wire.

If it still doesnt work then pull the subs out, and check the terminals there.

From what youve described, id bet money its the ground... get a grounding block.

yeah i checked the ground and it was rusted and a really shitty job i fixed it but its still pretty much the same spot but a new hole and new screw. Its not the subs, amp or deck thats the problem. i had the same problem with 4 different subs, 2 amps and 2 decks. I looked for a better place to ground but theres not much to go with in that hatch. I like to used seat belt bolts but these were a b***h to get to. I think gonna try all new ground wire check the speaker terminals on amp and sub box and if still i get this same proplem i may try all new power wire for the amp.

if everything is hooked up right, and everything but the head unit has been switched out... my guess is that you blew the sub outputs on your deck

^^^ that or the spot that you're grounding to isn't good enough. It needs to ground to a non painted surface, a screw into painted sheet metal is not enough. Try grounding it to the rear seat bolts, I think they are a 10 mm bolt.

no 2 different decks as well i was thinkin that too until we put his deck in and it didnt change anything. I dont think the length of the rcas would cause bass this weak. The original rcas were about 17-20 ft i dunno exactly they were already in the car when i got it the new ones r 25ft they are longer than needed but it was those or the 12ft ones at the time. I am definatly starting to lean towards the problem being the ground.

I think it is also your ground because this morning my friends ground was a little loose and he didn't know it. He was complaining about his base not being as loud as it usually is so i said check the ground and he touched it and it feel out. We fixed it and it became loud again. So definitely check your ground. Did you also check your terminals on your battery for tightness?
