in my 93 civic, i installed a Code Alarm CA-425 with auto start and alarm packages. i had it installed Back in May by one of my friend's friends that works at Honda. Since last month or when it started getting colder, the auto start stops working and the alarm (siren) would go off and when i use the 2 way remote to turn the siren/alarm off, the remote would tell me that the car is unlock but when i checked the door it is still locked. It stops working when outside is too cold. It will start if the car is warmed up. i was wondering if anyone can help me in anyway to solve this, maybe its a sensor problem or something. any input is fine. TIA

if it doesnt start when its cold outside, most likely they took the easy way to install it and just used voltage sense, instead of tach sense. the voltage sense cranks for a certain amount of time, and when its cold, and the car is older, it needs longer cranking time, so it wont work. you would have to have it wired using the tach signal, that way it will crank as long as it needs to. as for the remote acting up, its not receiving 2 way signal properly. check connections.

have you ever physically watched your car try to start in the cold. I know my auto start just stops when the cranking is slow and it doesnt turn on.. Basically mine will try, fail , give up, the put the parking lights on.

easiest solution is one of those batteries that start up well in the winter.

yea i watched it many times and tried even everyday hoping it would start hahaha. it sometimes just TRIES to start and crank but then it couldn't and then the siren would go off. man this kills the whole point of having a remote starter

Give us some more info on exactly what it's doing. Go outside and try to start it, and watch what it does. Does the ignition come on (dash lights up, fuel pump turns on), does it actually try to crank and just not successfully start? Or does nothing happen at all?

It depends on what the installer did, for example if he hooked up neutral safety switch, hoodpin, tach, etc.

I install python starters all day at CC so i might be able to diagnose it if you post exactly what happens.

Also, what unit do you have? The 425 is the brain that actually pairs with another unit, what does the remote look like? Is it the normal black remote with lock, unlock, *, and aux, or is it the fancier unit with the lcd screen?

well i actually think its the battery too but i'll tell ya wat happens anyway....
i start it up, the lights on dash DO come on, it tries to start liek normal, u hear everything working and powering up, and then it starts to crank for a second.... then it would stop and the siren would go off and my doors be unlocked. but he alarm is still armed so when i open the door, the alarm goes off.

i have the CA 425 with the 145 and the 545 i think.... because the 145 comes with the lcd two way and the 545 comes wit the auto starter so i needed both things and have both things installed... i'm not sure what he hooked it up to, i kno he didn't do hood pin and trunk cuz those aren't electronic anyway. that brakes are hooked to it of course, u have to step on the brakes when the key is in to drive away or it'll shut off without the keys in it.
i remember there was a wire for tach, but i'm not sure if he did it or not.
thats all i can remember for now.

if i were to change the battery, is there any recomendations for a new battery? i heard Optima was pretty good but aren't they smaller so would they be able to mount into the OEM one? if not then wat other battery would you suggest?

Optima Red Top is great for daily driver without some gnarley sound system. It's what we put in Amy's car, and it's worked out wonderful. Fires right up in the cold after not being started for a week.

i think so cuz the optima's ive seen are the size of regular batteries. ask local retailer what you can do, if they have a tray for it or if they have a smaller battery.
