B18a with p30 pistons on boost???

I got a built bottom end b18a ls block. Brand new jdm p30 pistons, new rings, new bearings, block has been hot tanked and honed. With a Ls head and OEM headgasket I will be running about 11.59:1 compression. If I add a SI head and do LS/Vtec I will get 12.18:1 compression and with a GSR head I will get 12.49:1 compression. These are good starting points for a good N/A setup and if I add a nice cam/spring/retainers I can have a good quick daily driver. Some people are against boost on a high compression motor and some live by it. I know I won't be able to run high psi and a smaller turbo will probably work better then a larger one for me. My goal is somewhere around 250-300whp because this is a daily driver. Or would it be better to go with a Jackson Racing Super Charger because there is less strain on the motor? Just asking for ideas. I know that a good tune is needed to stay away from detonation. I have researched a lot just wanting to hear from others on here. Thanks. Will be running a gsr tranny also so I have a little bit longer gears than a SI tranny.

there isnt any less strain on the motor going with a super charger over a turbo. if anything they are the same. i would say 11.5:1 cr is as high as you would want to go, i highly wouldnt recommend boosting on a 12.4:1. but as they say its all in the tune. also at that compression you could get a small turbo charger, say 18g or t28, and hit 250whp fairly easily. but do note that on a small turbo like those, the efficiency runs out near redline.

what be the next step in turbochargers a gt35 or sc44 (think thats right)?

you mean something bigger? gt35 is a pretty big turbo so is a sc44... they will give you way more than just 250 hp. i believe the efficiency of a gt35 lies about 12psi... youd hit close to 325-350hp

so what turbo size would you suggest that will run comfortably and hit about 250-300whp mark.

for fast spooling go with an 18g, or t28

for more performance in case you want to push more power later on go with a t3/t04, or gt28

for more performance now go with the gt35

On another site a bunch of the members were saying I would never boost on a high compression motor. With a 11.5:1 compression I would think you wouldn't need as much psi to come into the motor to compensate for the lower compression you would find on say a 9:1 motor. So I would think keep the boost low, have a good tune, shoot for about 250whp and I should have a good daily driver. I threw around the idea to throw a super charger on and call it day but not sure.

i dont know why you mention a gt35r, unless u have a sleeved/forged setup u cant even come close to using it to its potential. there are many other turbos in between a t28 and a gt35r, ie a t3, t3/t04e 50 trim, 57 trim, 60 trim, gt30r, 60-1.

i would go with something like a 50 trim for your setup.

if the block isnt assembled yet, throw in a set of lower c/r pistons

Already assembled and ready to drop in. Bought it off a friend like that, has no miles on it.
