b20b bottom end strength

Hey guys....how strong is the bottom end of a b20? I'm looking into a hatch that's already swapped and eventually putting a head onto it Vtec of course....but what needs to be done to the bottom end to make sure it doesn't let go and destroy the head. Im having a hard time finding people with experience with this so here I am. Thanks in advance!

Im not even sure what youre asking. Do you mean to ask how much power potential a stock B20 block has? What head do you intend to use, if youve picked one? Do you want to know the best VTEC head to put on a b20 block for max potential?

Not sure exactly what head yet...most likley a 1.8 Vtec but I'd be putting cams and port and polish....intake and throttle body just to make sure it breathes well. I'm just not sure what the bottom end hold up to rpm wise and power wise. I've heard the bottom ends let go rather frequently and I'm sure it's from over revving the motor for what it can handle. Basically what breaks first in the bottom of a b20 and why? What has to be done to prevent it?

Upgraded rod bolts, same weakness as the 98% identical B18b. Cams aren't going to do s**t without upping the compression.

Ok so the best way to up the compression is going to be pistons if I'm not mistaken. I was thinking of shaving the head down a little but I'm not sure if that's going to cause clearance issues. The b20 is under 10:1 compression if I'm not mistaken....is shaving the head down a cheaper idea or am I going to need pistons?

You can't take enough off the head to make a huge difference. Clearance is going go be based off the cams you use. Pistons will be the best way to up the compression.

Have you ever had the experience of a knife edged crank? A guy here at work suggested it and I was wondering if anyone has experienced it or drove one or built one with it in?
