Basic Cluster Swap question: odometer

I spent quite a while searching through forums for some basic mods for my 96 HB DX, and wanted to know if theres a way to swap the odometer for the clusters?

I've seen a lot of people not really caring about swapping the milage, but i just wanted to know if its possible to do. I'm still kind of iffy about letting go of my 85xxx miles.

So.. Is it a safe to swap the miles?

its not legal, but you can either "roll" back or foward the mileage on your current cluster or swap your existing cluster with another, but please remember as this is your first post here, that we do not endorse illegal things... and welcome!

I know it's usually illegal to mess with an odometer, but I'd think tat there would be a loophole on keeping the ORIGINAL odometer in the event that you swap clusters. Becuase, well... sometimes a cluster has to be swapped. Say some of the other gauges stop working, or a needle falls off or something. Or caustic fluids are sprays on it for whatever reason and it's damaged. Or water damaged the circuit board.

There is a way to swap the odometer, but I've never done it so I can't tell you how to.

I do know that if you were to get a cluster with lower miles at least and put it in your car, then the next time you get the car inspected or something they could mark it as "Not Original Miles".

If you're swapping for a cluster with a tachometer, say from an EX or something, then yes, you can swap the whole speedo assembly from one cluster to the other..

I got lucky when I swapped my CX cluster to a GSR one, as the mileage was exact, almost to the tenth!

I am not sure how to swap the odometer, but i swapped out my cluster for an EX cluster. To keep my mileage correct i swapped old the speedo guage(the one from my DX cluster) with the ex one. It was simple four screws behind that plastic cover on the back side of the cluster. I know thats not much help if you are getting an SI cluster though, since the speedo goes higher than ours

whoa you got the speedo swapped? Isnt the spedo soldered onto the circuit board or something?

With that, i dont know if i can pass inspectino with "original miles".

if i get the cluster, i might take a picture of both odometers to see if they will accept that as original miles. hahaha.

or whatever their policy would be,

Dude, the speedo is interchangable, odometer and all.. It's cake.. took me literally 10 minutes to swap between the two clusters, making them both functional again..

do you have a specific guide on how to swap the speedo?

I'm just wanting to know if i will fail inspection, or how i can pass it with original miles.

the speedo is like 4 screws or something and the whole assembly comes off, then you just switch them, the only reason i didnt do this was cuz i put in a cluster that looked a lot different so my old speedo wouldnt have matched.

yeah, it's pretty self-explanatory, once you take the cluster out of the dash..

if you swap the clusters...theres no way to prove original miles.

i just did my dx to ex cluster swap but i swaped my speedo with the other so i have the same milage as before. its very easy to do only four screws held it.

yeah.. i can see how easy it is to swap it, but i'm still wondering how i can somehow get legit mileage. bleh.

It might not be a big deal to anyone, but i would still like to pass inspection, haha

I read through http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=413826- that sk8shorty017 posted, and i looked in another page about swapping the odometer. The guy passed emission. WTF

Um... why wouldn't he pass emissions if he swapped his odometer?

Inspection =/= emissions testing.

Just figure out how to swap the odometer and DON'T mention it to the peopel when you go to get tested. It probably is one of those things where you have to be certified and registered to swap or work on otherwise. So either get a reputable shop to do it... or do it yourself and don't mention it to the state people (cops, DMV workers, etc).

I talked to someone about this cluster thing, and he said to talk to the DMV. Maybe i can actually get it done legit.
