-I started off my battery reloaction today. I'll post pics of whats happening and maybe some of yuo can follow along if your interested. I wanted more power for my sound system and the new bettery won't fit cause of ONE freaking bolt on the strut tower. So I'm relacating it. Similar kits cost 100 or so dollars and here you can do it for 35 or so, given you have the proper tools. This way looks alot better too. I'll make it into a how to once i'm done.

Materials:

-3/4 inch mdf. Smaller 1/2 inch would work too!
- 1, 2, 2.5 Inch screws. Whatever. ($3.00)
-Wood glue ($6.00)
-Small hinges (Chrome for show, or paint em) ($3.00)
-Some carpet. ABout 3 or 4 square feet. ($8.00)
-About 15 feet of 4 gauge wiring. I wouldn't go less than 4 gauge. (20)

Here's the stock location.

Here's where it's going:

1. Trace the outline of the battery and then trace 1 inch around the width and 1.5 inches along the length.

2. Cut it out.

3. Trace the shape 2 times then cut both out. You'll have 3 identical pices of wood.

4. Cut Drill a hole out of the piece with the battery traces onto it and cut out the battery shape. The battery should fit snugly into the cutout.

5. Glue the cutout to one of the other pieces of wood you cut out. This will form the base. It will hold the battery in place so it doenst move around (I hope). Remember, a little glue goes a long way.

6.Then measue the height of the battery. Cut out two pieces that are the faces of the battery x the lenghth of the base. These will be the sides. Then cut out two more pieces that are the Height of the bettery x the width of the base. These will be the sides. Now you havhe all the parts to start making your box.

-Tomorrow I plan to Glue the sides together with the woodglue and using 2 screws per side. Then i'll carpet it and put the top on with the chrome hindges. I'll install some sort of arms that can lock the lid in an upright position for show. I plan to have Two holes in the bottom of the box to allow the wiring through. Another option would be to cut holes on the sides so the wires can go out under the lid. :P

Now I used my sotck battery tie down to hold down this battery. Because my stock holder is smaller than this abttery I plan to make 2 90" bends in the right J screw to make it fit into the other side of the tie down, while still holding down the battery.

I glued the sides on and put 2 scres in each to hold it well the glue set. ALso it'll add some stability down the road.

Now. I went to put on the othre sides and noticed I cut em to small. With the shiity fitment of the other parts of the box, "cause i cant use a angle" it tirned out for the better cause i could make sides that fit perfect.

However the box still had huge cracks. So I brought out the silcone. Silicone, unlike a dog is a mans best friend. My dog let one rip as I was cutting which led to an uneven cut. SIlicone fixed that. Men like tits and building stiff. Silicone makes tits bigger, and helps build stuff. It's the ultimate invention.

Here's how it stands now, waiting for me to go get some carpet for it.

Oc can you add this to the first post. It's too big.

Umm.. I'm running this one battery. In the stock space, a distributor will be added to split power to everything. umm. maybe something will be put there down the road. lol. p.s read lol I'm making a lid. Also the box is gonne be lined with sheet metal cause technically i need a "metal wall between the battery and passenger compartment." hahaha. I'm doig likee .0223232mm allumminun foil lol.

Venting is good. All batteries need ventilation. However optimas dont need fresh air or sometihng. Ned onyla bit of ventilation. The box will be ventilated into the trunk which is by no means air tight. I will leave space in the wire cutouts i'll be making. That'll ventilate it! lol Thanks for the input guys! =)
