bazooka tube's good or bad?

i have an alpine cda-9885 head unit, all speakers were replaced with sony xplod's (before i bought the car). i want to add a subwoofer because there is a pretty serious lack of bass. i do not need or want to shake my car apart, and i dont plan on playing music for everyone within 1000 feet of me. i play my music somewhat loud and just want more bass that will be clear and thump a little if i want it to.

this has led me to a 6" or 8" bazooka tube...its simple to install, compact so i can put it in my backseat instead of my trunk, and still get that extra bass i want.

anyone have any input on these things?

they hit okay; circuit city did some shutting down of stores but they USED to have them on display. try finding one and testing it out. Im thinking of getting one for my trunk due to the simplicity (no amp, box, etc etc)

If youre looking for something compact with decent thump, then go with Bazooka. My friend has one in a 7th gen and it sounded alright. It added enough bass and made the trunk rattle.

Its nothing to make an audiophile happy though, its just to add bass.

Prime? I forgot Rockford made something worse than their punch line.....and yes, the P1 sounds like crap. It's got a plastic basket for God's sake. Honestly, I've never been a fan of self powered subs...they usually are of a low quality and over priced. An Alpine 10" Type E with their M500 amp would be perfect. Great quality. I love how their entry level sub has features found on their top of the line pro grade sub. Plus, it requires a very small volume for a sealed enclosure.

i had one a long time ago. i forget what name it was, it wasnt a bazooka though...
i liked it cause it was simple to install, didnt need amps and all that s**t.
im not one to have rattling trunks and license plates. just enough bass to enjoy, which the bass tube did.

my friend had 2 under both front seats, they don't hit nearly as hard as my one 12" rockford

That's because you are comparing the air displacement of two 8" woofers at 100RMS a piece to that of either a 12":
P1-150RMS
P2-250RMS
P3-500RMS

No competition

O.P. Before I ad my suggestion I'll let you know I have been in car audio (selling or installing) off and on since 1995. So from my experience you would be better off with a higher quality sub/box/amp. I used to work for an S.A.S. dealer, that's who makes Bazooka, and they were a great idea. But you really pay a premium for the ease of installation. You want good clean bass for cheap? Buy the BEST sub/box you can possibly afford then power it with a decent amp that matches it's power rating. If I wanted to buy something small, and affordable for my civic.... I would probably get this.

That will go right up against the back of the trunk with minimal storage loss.

then you need 150-300 watts of CLEAN non bullsh%$ amp power

That's a decent deal

Here's what I would get to power it (just my own opinion)

Or the other amp you were looking at would work also. Just please buy from a authorized dealer and hook it up RIGHT. or you will kick yourself hard in the junk.
Tip: If you aren't paying $35 or more for an amp-install kit... chances are it's not a good one.

Another option would be a decent 4 chan. amp. Power your doors off the front, Bridge the back for the sub. I don't know how much you know about car-audio but if it's not much, READ up on some threads first.
If you do it wrong, you either waste your $ or burn your car to the pavement...Yes that IS possible. Unlikely but possible. Sorry for the long post but I like to be as thorough as possible.
Oh yeah....here's a good deal on the 4 chan/ route.

Either way, do something like this and use RCA cables instead of high level inputs... You'll be more then happy, and I'm sure others will back me on that statement. Good luck Bro!

I also just noticed your thought of sitting it in the back seat.. I'm not going to get into the reasons why because they are numerous as hell. But I PROMISE you, it will sound like sh&%. It does seem like that would work and be a great idea. Unfortunately it won't. One reason is that you will be preasurizing the trunk with about half of the subs output. So that will be lost from your enjoyment right off the bat. It just won't work man.

I had 2 bazooka tubes in my cherokee along time ago. I got them for free from a buddy. They were perfect for what I wanted. They give you enough bass to make the music sound better but do not rattle the s**t out of your car. It is all in what you want.
