I use to have a 2003 Civic Si and it was a blast to drive, but I am now carless. I'm looking for a 5th or 6th Gen Civic to buy and mod. What do you suggest me to buy for this price? So far I'm leaning towards the EX model.

2000 cx

I just grabbed a 2000 CX (hatch with no options) - for around 4k.
Only 65k miles on it, and real clean - that's the best I've seen around here.
They really hold their value.

definitely get a 5th gen hatch or a 6th gen coupe or hatch. for 3k you probably wont find an s.i. so be on the lookout for hx or ex..or even a dx/cx...i picked up my 98 dx coupe for 2800 with 104k. but if your looking for performance out of any of these dont expect a lot cause they're all just d series. if you wanna go big, save up and swap with a b16 or boosted LS.

A 99 civic EX looks like the way to go for me with 127HP. Thanks for the info on the engines.

yea if your looking for a stock one for 3k then ex is the way to go. thats the quickest besides the s.i.

like you said its 127 hp vtec, hx is 115 hp vtec, and dx is 106hp non vtec. just be careful and make sure when you buy one that everything is in tact, take it to a mechanic and have them check everything out before you throw down money.

Hadn't thought of taking it to a mechanic before buying. Thanks for the tip, I'll probably miss something on my initial inspection.
