Best sub for new amp?

I just recently purchased the new MRV-M500 amp from alpine and my current subwoofer will not handle the power from this amp so I figured I'd start from scratch and build something new. My last setup was an MTX 12 inch sub with a 200 wrms amplifier. It wasn't a crazy expensive setup so this one should be a lot better.

4 ohms - 350rms
2 ohms - 500rms

Have been thinking about a single alpine type r 12in sub. Anyone use them before?

An Alpine Type-R sub will work just fine with that amp. I suggest you consider a JL Audio sub so you wont have to worry about the sub not being able to handle the amp. JL's are traditionally rated roughly 26% less than their actual output.

Went to a local car audio shop to check out the Type R's in person. They sure as hell sound great! Only thing that I'm still questioning is the enclosure. I could re-use my vented box possibly but I'm not sure if a type R will fit in depth wise. My current box's dimensions are 15-3/4" H x 21-1/4" W x 17-1/4" D

Also, which version of the Type R would be best? Parallel wiring with the SWR-12D4 or the SWR-12D2?

First, go with the Alpine SWR-12D2 sub to compliment the Alpine MRV-M500.

Secondly, your current vented box is roughly .7cu.ft too large for the SWR-12D2 which runs optimally at around 1.5cu.ft. Keep in mind an optimal sealed box just needs .85cu.ft and will deliver better all-around bass and take up far less space.

The equation to calculate sub box cu.ft is:
H x D x W / 1728 (make sure to subtract thewood's thickness before multiplying the dimensions)
