the best (as in cheapest) would be a custom kit.

The best turbo would be one that spools at the perfect rpm, tuned for maximum efficiency and produces the results you want.

Unfortunately, with all this performance, money must be sacrificed...
Soo... you really can't have the best turbo for your car unless you're willing to fork over $3k+

Im a big fan of the REV HARD kit straight out of the box. Its a good complete kit suitable for full race use and for the street.

The DRAG turbo kits are ok as well, but is 1 notch below what the REV HARD is just because I dont like the design of the manifold. The wastegate should be upgraded to a Tial unit instead of the Turbonetics wastegate. but other than that, its a good complete starter kit.

drag kits suck. the turbo they use is so ill-matched. you dont see power till late in the rpms....they just draw ppl to them becuase of the peak numbers....which dont really mean s**t

I disagree. They use t3/to4B or T3/To4E, which arent little turbos. The turbonetic turbos they use arent for the weak. Yes, they don't Spool up as fast like a greddy kit. And they certainly don't feel like the boost of a VW 1.8T
DRAG kits are made for power, and to make higher HP, means a bit of a lag in the beginning so it can spool up for more Punch at top end.

The DRAG kit is not for everyone. Some want a turbo kit that can perform well on the street and track, some just want the quick punch off the line. Its a compromise, you cant have a fast spooling turbo setup that will do over 300HP+.

We've been using DRAG and Rev HArd kits since it first came out in the 90s and they have been good since. All you really need to do is make a few changes in the kits and they are competition ready. You cant get that with the APEX and GREDDY kits. Those are weak kits not suitable for competition.

I understand everyone has their opinion. I'm just giving mine based on almost 10years of use between the 2 kits.

I can think of two people with the GReddy kit that run 12's, of course the kits arent in the original form...but using the same turbo...thats fast enough for me

Off the shelf, I know Rev Hard kits are good for 10 sec. DRAG kits are good for 11 sec.

piecing together you own kit will give you the best results...because you build it based on what you want....

It takes time to really know alot about building up our engines. I started out in 1992, most likely when most of you here were still 8-10 y/o. At that time, I didnt know anything. I mean that was the time when we used to go street racing with Steph Papadakis, Jojo Callos, Lisa Kubo and those guys didnt know much either at that time. We were all newbies at one time. All we had were Intakes and exhaust. It took several years to learn more and more, and up to this point, we are all still learning as we go.

Just like SeanMc300 said: The best advice is to NOT rush into things. Plan out your build up. Look at what your budget will allow NOW and what your financial capability will allow in the future.. You cant jump into things and expect your car to get faster the more you spend and more parts you add. Thats not the way it works. Its all about finding the right combination of parts, not piling on the most parts on the car as possible.

^^exactly. ive been reading and asking questions and doing research for about 1 1/2 years, im finally about to tackle this. dont be like "i want to turbo" then spend a bunch of cash and do it right away. whats the fun of doing something/ having something if you dont know how all of its componets work. it took me about 6 months to finally figure out what i wanted my car to do. i want a small turbo that will spool fast...its purely for around town boosting, no drag racing...no highway racing...just little spurts. thats all i want, i dont want over 200hp, cuz at that point, id be spending too much money.
figure out what you are going to use your car for, realisticly, then research and collect parts that will help you acheive that.
