Blow-off or Bypass?

Which one is better? how much difference is there between the two?

I've heard that the bypass keeps the turbo spooled while switching gears because it recycles the air rather than just blowing it off.

a blow-off valve vents the pressure the the atmosphere, while a bypass valve redirects the air back in front of the turbo. Both keep the turbo spooled during quick shifts by preventing the pressurized air from backing up into the compressor.

Both will work fine, but a bypass is required in draw-thru MAF situations. The air that has already been metered can not be vented to the atmosphere because the car would think you are getting a lot of air and compensate by increasing the amount of fuel. This would cause you to run very very rich.

I guess I'll go blow off then. Because I want the sound. ;)

Make sure you set it to hard... that will give it that tight sound... if you set it properly, you can get it to blow off hard... and then when its low it will whistle... i did that to my friends eclipse... it blows off so hard, then whistles... sounds phat as hell

no, I wanted to go with the one that's the best and because it doesn't matter I'll go with the one that makes the cool sound.

First of all, he never said having a turbo is rice. He was saying that picking a blowoff valve based on the sound alone is rice. There is much more to picking a bov/bypass valve then just the sound.
