Hey guys, this is my first post here, but I need your input. Today I plugged my sub back into the car and when i turn the radio on, it makes kind of a loud "pop" noise, but that is it, no other noise. I went back and looked at the speaker and when it is on, the speaker looks like it is popped out, then when i turn the radio off, it goes back to looking normal. I pulled the speaker out of the box and ckecked all of that stuff, but nothing seems wrong. I checked all the wires so my guess is that it is blown, what do you guys think?[/FONT]

sounds like you got the positive and negative speaker leads messed up somewhere bro. check your wiring and to see if the sub is blown...plug it into your home stereo so see if it plays. really check every single wire and take your time doing so..! I hope that'll help ya out mang! =)

the positives and negatives aren't mixed at all. Every wire is fine, I had the sub in the car long before this happened. I took it out overnight to move some stuff and when i plugged it back in, that was the result

first off. please dont go pluggin that into your home stereo. thats not gonna do ne thing, besides may burn your house down. So can you push the center of your sub down? if not your voice coils are burnt. another way is, to meter the ohm rating of each voice coil. somewhere on the magnet it will more than likely tell you your ohm rating. when you meter it, it wont read exact like 4 ohms, but it will be close. if its really far off, than its blown. if you have any questions just let me know. Glad to help you bro.

Ok first off you are WRONG.... I had a 12" plugged into my stereo for 2 years and never had an issue. And dont be telling me about burning down houses cause Im a firefighter and that wont do s**t.

Its probably a wiring fault or something, just carefully check the connections.

Alright, so I tried the sub in my buddys car, and it was fine, so i tried the amp in his car and that was the problem. It started to smell like burnt electronics pretty bad, so its time for a new amp, thanks for your help though guys.

you're wrong bro....

car audo speakers arent designed for the current put out by home stereo setups
this can cause the voice coils to heatup... even melt, and if the speaker, any part of the box, or perhaps even the polyfill get too hot then POOF there's your fire

you're a firefighter... which means you hold a hose.... that in no way qualifies you to give electrical advice

the funny thing is that you are wrong...the ohm load of the woofer in a car amplifier is lower than that of a home stereo speaker...this in turn doubles the output wattage on the amplifier...thus causing the amp to heat up...any decent amp has circuit protection and/or fuses...so setting the house on fire is an absolutely stupid thing to say might happen...yes...it MAY...if you are also smoking with a can of gas by the bed...i hate how on this website people always want to prove each other wrong...everyone thinks they are right...people start taking over strings...its horrible...i cant read a string without someone telling someone else that i am right and you are wrong...blah blah blah...f-ing please!!!
