Hey guys,
Selling my LsVTECcoupe and bought a 99 ex with 94,000miles.

I need some suggestions for turbo options.
I am looking to make a custom setup since the greddy kits are way overpriced! =)

I am looking to make around the 180 whp range.
What is a good setup for this mark?
More importantly, what is the fuel management needed? Is VAFC hack sufficient for this hp mark with a dyno tune? Will i need bigger injectors, if so, what size? Is an FMU required if you're running a VAFC hack?
I have read some bad things about doing VAFC hacks on Honda-tech.

Is hondata with boost option necessary a 180whp setup?

Size trim for turbo for this power range?

Suggestions are appreciated!

grab yourself a 14b turbocharger off a talon that is in good condition with minimal shaft play, find a p28, chip it, get a adj reguator, get a shop to rig you up an exhaust that is at least 2.5"

:werd: I have a 14b with safc2 and making about 180 to the crank. I'm using toyota 310cc injectors and it's all on a stock d16z6. The only thing f**ked up about the safc2 is that the screen went. It still tunning though and that's all that matters. Other then that I've had no problems

my suggestion would be (since i BELIEVE you said earlier that you plan on swapping a dohc later) would be a nice hmt style setup.

14b turbo (or i have a garret gt17 off a saab for sale)
hf manifold
3in downpipe and exhaust
1g dsm bov w/piping
1g dsm smic (which i have one for sale, cheap)
chipped ecu
dsm 450cc injectors to be safe, you never wanna max them out, dont go past 80%duty cycle
stealthmode oil line kit
and vafc if you want to cheap out.i personally wouldnt do a vafc,id rather use uberdata, hondata etc...as for the FMU,thats a big no no in my books and maybe a walbro 255lph fuel pump

its going to be hard to hit 180 on a vafc hack. they require you to run pig rich (if your concerned about reliability) a d series usually caps at about 190 so your goals are definatly reachable (with the right tune) but any more than 190, the price of such power on a d-series would be negated by the price of a more condusive motor.

with that said, since your pretty much maxing out that motor as it is,you need the best available tune and that not being the vafc hack....like i said, look into chipping your ecu instead

uberdata/crome/neptune for teh win.

GAR M24, any IHI, 14b as stated are all good candidates... nice low end tq and should hold boost to redline.

Get some DSM 450's... don't run trash like VAFC + missing link and definitely do not use a FMU.

BEST and easiest suggestion...
Used Greddy turbo kit, get a jonneyracecar fmic, a 1st gen mitsu bov, and the piping done at a shop for the fmic, and your set. All you need to do is (if the kti doens;t have it then get one) have the e-managed tuned for YOUR car professionally. make sure your running 310cc injectors or get the oens from the 97+ prelude or vigor those are 310-320cc and will work fine for 10psi of boost. that will actually get you closer to 200 wheel power relyabily.

you should also consder the following.
timming belt change out as msot liklet the old owner never did it.

chipped ecu's are always better.....but i know one guy personally making 240whp with a safc, and 200whp with a vafc.

you can also make big power on an SSAC kit just not reliable like the S-AFC hack

hit up john vega in the sponsor forum he can build pretty damn good basemaps. that will allow your car to run very safe and make decent power. and even more power once you get it tuned.

a standard kit with a t3 will work well and get you 180 without a hiccup.

440CC injectors
t3 turbo ( if you wanan keep AC)

manifold, downpipe. dumptube. 38MM tial gate. fmic kit if you choose however 180 you can do without an FMIC cuz roughly 8 psi will get you there. and on the larger turbos they tend not to heat up as much.
