hey cc i have a boosted 00 si with the stock b16a2. Im currently running a vafc controller on 450's until i get a chipped ecu. Ok my question is when i set my vafc controller sensor numbers to 6 in 6 out like the apexi manual says the car doesnt want to run or idle good. So i went through all number s and i find that 3 in 8 out is perfect. I used to get a CEL when i boost on stock map sensor but on 3 in 8 out it only throws a CEL when i decelerate what could this be?? when it throws the car starts to sputter and s**t. it idles rough but when i cut the car off andback on it runs fiine. what the hell could this be

you need a map sensor bypass valve. or a missing link to fix your CEL problem. i dont know anything about AFC's other than that

Is your car tuned on the AFC? You know that the AFC advances your timing right?

well on a stock map, best thing to do is retard your timming and get a wideband and tune it.

Jeff Evans of Evans tuning. you may know him for the 460hp stock sleeved sohc on Pinks...

The afc hack does per say advance the timing, but it alters the way the ecu reads the map sensor. When the engine is seeing 8psi, its saying that the computer is at wot/atmospheric conditions or 0psi/0 vacuum. The ecu reads the corresponding timing value which is 30-32 degrees advance, when the engine should really be seeing 26-27 degrees total advance. It doesnt advance the timing, it inhibits the ecu from pulling back the timing since it thinks the engine is operating in atmospheric conditions/0 vacuum.

I bought a few one way check valves from the pet store for a few dollars and used that to bypass my map sensor. I'm tuned with a safc2 and my timing is fine. I do suggest that no matter if your using a afc hack get your s**t on the dyno and tune your s**t ;) otherwise you might have nothing to boost

unless you are using a MSD BTM or some other way to pull timing, i can guaratnee that your timing is not "fine"

you need to pull timing when you are boosting, not add timing like the stock ecu does. just because the car seems to run fine, does not mean that it is safe and not doing some sort of damage to your motor

Honestly your best bet is to sell the VAFC and FMU then just get a chipped ecu and have someone atleast street tune it with a wideband. Then all your problems should be solved. I have never had luck with the VAFCs nor do I recomend them. I know this doesnt answer your question but thats me giving you good advice. To answer your question the a missing link should fix the problem.
