brake caliper/ rotors/ bearing

Ok. First of all I'm a complete noob. To forums and working on cars but I wanna learn as much as the next person. I recently had a wheel bearing go out on my front left. The mechanic said it would cost 500$$!! Not happening. So I took old bearing out and wound up to having to get a new hub assembly as well. I got it all together now and back on the car my problem now is the reason for this thread. When I tighten the caliper into place the out side of the caliper tightens itself onto the rotor instead of the brake pad. Could I have not pressed the bearing on far enough or what's going on. I can post picture later tonight if needed but it just seems like to easy of a fix for me to bring it in. Also another problem is I have the front end of the up on jacks but it's in park but the wheels still rotate... if that makes sense is this a big concern?? Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks.

Would have to see it to know the answer.

As far as the wheels moving, the simple answer is yes. One will move one direction and at the same time, the other will move the opposite. Unless one wheel is still touching the ground.

Post a lot of clear pictures along with understandable text because for the life of me, I can't understand what you are saying here^.
