Brake Question

I have an issue with my brakes. I have a '91 civic and when I press on the brakes the pedal travels almost completely to the floor. I just got the car yesterday. The front pads look to be in almost new condition with no visible leaks. Last night I stopped for a yellow and my rears locked up but the front end doesn't even start to dip. I travel almost two hundred miles round trip for work so othe rthen just bleeding the brakes what else can it be. when the car is off the pedal gains pressure but as soon as I start the car the pedal drops again.

other than bleeding the brakes.. it could be the master cylinder.

i would attempt to change all the fluid in the brake system first. meaning bleeding the brakes until you make the reservoir empty atleast 3 times.

not only could there be air in the lines... but... where there was air.. condensation could have formed and basically ruin the fluid.

First check whether the fluid in the master cylinder (MC) reservoir is low. If low, start looking for brake fluid leaks from the MC, front calipers, and rear wheel cylinders. Replace/fix any leaking parts and then thoroughly bleed the system. If no fluid loss is evident, then replace the MC.

The locking up of the rear brakes is also a concern. What condition are the braking surfaces inside the drums and the pads?
