I am looking at a 1993 Honda Del Sol S with a D15 non vtech engine. The guy says the valve train is locked up. Says the Cam Sprocket broke. Does this mean I have to just replace the cam or does this mean the Valves went a little to far down and slapped the pistons? Im wondering what all could be wrong if the engine is toast or if its just the head. PLEASE HELP! The guy only wants $700 for the car its in good condition. Engine has 200K+ miles. Any help will be much appreciated.

Its hard to tell. What caused the sprocket to break? Did the timing belt seize? If that's the case the head is junk n a good chance the pistons got slapped. Honestly I would talk the guy down to $500 maybe $600 n just do a swap. I see d series motor go threw my work for 3-$400. Idk if you have a local lkq tho

Thank you, i was thinkig about just getting a dif engine... worries me tht the engine is stuck. and I have no idea the guy is not very good with hondas. said his mechanic took the head off and the bottom end was good. I honestly dont belive that but who knows. i have a question though... This is a D15 non vtech engine... what would I need to make it a D16 vtech engine? diff ecu, wiring harness and engine right? or am i missing stuff?

if you get the car cheap and you dont have a budget just put an ls swap i there or just put a jdm d5 vtec b18b1 142hp 126 pounds of tq. d15b vtec 130 hp 107 pounds of tq i have a site where you can buy a jdm vtec for 780 plus shipping and all you have to get is the ecu everything else comes with it.

if the sprocket broke, then there is something wrong with the timing assembly.. this means at the very least your head is shot.

I would just swap it at this point. and to answer your quesiton regarding swapping in a D16Z6 (d16 vtec) you would need the motor and the ECU and to look up the wiring diagram, if my memory serves me correctly, there are 3 wires that need to go from the solenoid + oil pressure sensor/temp + tach to get vtec to engage. should be very easy to handle

OR you can get a swap with the engine harness included and then just plug and play.
