Burning oil?

I purchased my first civic about a week and a half ago. It's a 97 ex model, no engine mods, all stock except for a aftermarket muffler. Every time I check my oil (every 2-3 days) it seems to need a quart or a quart and a half. Is this normal for an old car? There is no leaks that I can see, and the engine feels as if it is running very strong still.

Any ideas on what it could be? Because no car iv ever owned burns through oil that fast.

Rings might be shot. Thats way too much oil for 2-3 days.

Clean the engine surfaces and then check regularly for fresh oil. Any blue smoke in the exhaust?

If the rings were shot wouldn't I see oil spills somewhere? Iv never seen any oil under the hood or the car. Not sure about blue smoke, tho I can check it in the morning. One of my friends believes I'm burning oil by looking at my exhaust one day tho I'm unsure what made him say that.

No if rings are shot you'll be burning oil. Piston rings is what hes talking about and thats a very expensive fix because it requires taking the entire engine apart. You better clean the engine everywhere and hope you have a leak somewhere. Maybe put a big cardboard box under your car at night and see if it's got oil in the morning. Have someone stand behind you and accelerate quickly, if blue smoke comes out your burning oil.

either your burning oil or love hitting VTEC way to much hahahahahahahaha
Ah, that's what I was thinking.. Shifting at high ass rpm is causing it to burn. Which would make sense, since it is my first manual and my last car was an auto which was stuck in third gear...

I'll always shift around 3-4 rpm today and check out my exhaust and get back to you guys, thanks!

that's what I shift at daily driving lol

But yeah I actually had a similar problem with my del sol and I had good luck with an engine restorer product. Just a silver can. But losing as much oil as you are I would do a compression test.
