I'm back in the game now and looking at buying a boosted car.. Anyone have any advice when looking at one? This will be my first boosted honda and I know a lot of people don't like to because it is sketchy, but I know there are some out there that aren't duds pretty much.. Any input on what to look for? thanks guys

personally I would rather build a boosted honda then buy one to make sure no corners were cut.

But I would request parts receipts on their claims of the build, the tuner's name, number, etc... and any data sheets / maps they can provide and as always look for leaks around any coolant and oil lines for the turbo, cooling plate, etc... as well as the usual spots for leakage.

If I was buying a car that has been boosted and the owner couldn't provide any one of those things, I would walk away.

I agree with obracer. Also if u can reach in there and check the shaft play on the turbo. Make sure it doesn't really move so u know its not in need of a rebuild or new turbo

first one, i say no. its not tuned, he is tuning off the apexi which isnt safe, looks like a cheaply built car. But the wheels on it arent exactly cheap wheels. wheels go for 12-1400

second one, price seems to low for the money invested, mentions nothing about being tuned or the software being ran, its ls/v so if its done incorrectly its a running time bomb. and how comfortable do you feel with engine repairs? i personally would buy an ls/v, but i have the ability to repair it. Also i would need receipts to prove all those parts could possibly be in there

That's what I was thinking about the civic too, seems kinda sketch but I love the way it looks.. And the teg I'm not sure why he's not asking more, he said it runs and drives pretty good. I'll have to ask him. I also just found this one, seems like the best so far, nice and clean..

eh the new civic looks like its running some type of software, but i would find otu which. it could just be a tune for ls/v

manifold has horrible waste gate placement and he plugged the vents for the catch can. so buying a catch can would be needed. that car is making a lot of pressure inside. its to hard to tell through a craigslist add if i car is good or not. you would have to look it over.

i recommend avoiding any ls/v setups that are not made by you. you cant tell if it was build properly, and it needs to be done properly and it not cheap to do. you need a lot. just dont buy a previously boosted car and do it yourself. you are spending a lot of money on a gamble. s**t, might as well go to a casino and throw it on a table, its what your doing

Yeah I know what you're saying.. I'll prolly look at a few and drive them and see how it goes and make a decision afterwards

to be honest the only turboed car I'd buy off some one is an evo, sti or a neon srt8... and thats just cause they are ment to hold up to the boost. as far as turboed civics go I wouldn't touch it unless of course they had solid proof like receipts for everything and the paperwork for the tune

Also need to think about your emissions laws and if the turbo kit is car legal if not you won't pass smog which means no pinkslip for you

Well im pretty sure we don't have much for emissions here in WI lol but I found an EG hatch that seems pretty legit, full dyno tune, reciepts, and he's had/built the car for 3 years now so I'm gonna go check it out. And its gos PS, AC and cruise which is very appealing.

those craigslist ads are of all sub-par builds. The one that has the vented vc that is running a loop is building pressure in teh case and is no doubt causing some issues.

personally I would get a CX, VX or EX civic and dive it for the gas millage, buy a motor and work on it out of the car, swap it and have fun. never said you had to buy a boosted car. it will save you time, money and headaches
