Buying Civic- Help

So, my first car was a bone stock 98 taffeta coupe. I got the honda bug, and now that my younger sister is getting the 98 coupe, im now looking for another honda. I have been looking at tons of civic and integras on craigslist, and i have a few questions.

1- I know that tons and tons of honda have rebuilt/branded titles from theft and then the occasional salvage title. Are these hondas truly a risk? My main goal here is to find a car with great reliability while still being fun. That leads to my second question.

2- I have been looking at a lot of b18c1/b16a2 civics, and i want to know the true reliability of these two engines. If my guess is right, they are pretty reliable knowing they are honda engines.

lastly, I cannot decide between a 5th or 6th gen civic. anyone who has owned both got any reccomendations?

6th gen of course, preferably 99 - they look nicer. I would suggest getting bone stock EX from some lady driver. Such a car will last a long time and EX is lively enough. Stay away from any modded cars - you never know how well the job was done and often these cars are abused. Stay away from salvaged cars.

There is a belief that it is best to get imported (assembled in Japan) vehicle. I think only first model year were assembled in Japan (e.g. my 97 DX is assembled in Japan and it is a perfect car). I might be wrong on this one though.

IMO im more of a 6th Gen person too. The only thing i dis like about the 5th gen is how the headlights are and how the hood sits on them.

And as far as salvage titles go. i wouldn't trust one. my people buy the cars thinking it just got broken into, but half the time they were in a crash and the frame is messed up. Next thing you know crash and your cars in half. Dont want that to happen.

1. Your best bet is to look for a car that was adult(the older the better) owned, chances are the motor hasn't been abused as much as if a little led food 16 year old was driving it.

2. Both engines are pretty reliable, the only thing is, you are looking for a motor swapped civic, which means whoever swapped it was looking for more power and most likely got on the pedal a few too many times. If I was in your position I would look for a civic with a stock motor and just swap it out later if you feel like you need more power.

And lastly, I would go with a 6th gen, the newer the better, less rust, less older parts to replace later.

6th gen FOR SURE. 99-00 models of the 6th gen look best, but where im at theyr pretty rare. its hard to find them surprisingly. i personally own a 98 d series and love it.
the 2 motors are fine reliability wise. its like any honda motor, treat them right and youll see over 200k miles easy. get on it and reem on it all the time, start saving for a new motor.

i personally like the 5th gens, i think they front looks better without the grille between the headlights, but that is up to you, on how you think it looks/will lok when you mod it. there are still some 5th gens out there that dont have rust, such as mine, you just need to take the time and look and find the right one, the newer the better i agree but it comes down to personal preferance on the body you want

best idea to find a stock civic no mods
