So im looking for an alarm for my 97 civic and my girls 05 accord. I got some quotes. for a viper 350 alarm with no pager is 190$ installed. the knock of equivalent to that is 140$. The viper alarm with pager is $280 installed. And the knock off to that is $200. Prestige is the knock off brand. My girls car is more newer and it will be an extra $50 for a module. not sure whats that for, but thats the price. Are these prices reasonable and if so, which one is better?

the word "knock off" has such a bad connotation in this case. Prestige is made by audiovox, a pretty wide known company.

I'm not saying they make the best systems but they aren't bad either. I have a prestige system that I installed myself, I've had it for a few years now and it hasn't given me any real problems. on the other hand, i hate the remote that came with it. its lock/unlock button design protrudes a bit out of the remote and creates unintentional pushes while in my pocket.

i havent worked with viper alarms but i hear they are good, so can't tell ya much about that. as far as prices go those seem pretty decent.

Good to know that Prestige is made by audiovox, at least its not a complete unknown company. I will look at the controller more carefully, thx for the tip.

those prices sound pretty accurate. The extra $50 is for the installer to incorporate the factory alarm into the viper unit. You should also remember the viper unit probably includes a free install and lifetime workmanship guarantee whereas the prestige unit would cost you an extra $150 at most install bays with limited warranty.
