Car Won't Start

1998 Honda Civic. Battery died and I tried to jump it and the horn started going off when I connected the jumper cables. Did some research and found out I needed my key fob which I didn't have with me at the time. A week later I get to the car, pull the horn fuse (don't want to annoy neighbors) and attach the jumper cables and I still get nothing when I try and start the car. I try and use the key fob and put the horn fuse back in with no luck. Nothing happens. So I bought a new battery. Tried to start it, nothing. What am I missing?

Hi, do you have an alarm system? Sounds like it could be an issue with the immobilizer if so. Did you test your battery before replacing it?

It had an aftermarket alarm system but it is disabled. I didn't check the old battery, it was old so I figured it was bad. I have read that I should disconnect the battery, close and lock all the doors, reconnect the battery and unlock the drivers side door to disable the alarm system. Then try and start it. Does that seem accurate?

My first guess would be hte immobilizer too.

Are you sure it's disabled? I would verify that. What brand aftermarket alarm did you have? Do you have the keyfob for the aftermarket system? I'm not really sure how alarms / immobilizers work as I've never really had an issue with mine.

So my key fob says Honda on it so I assume that is not part of the alarm system. I looked under the steering column yesterday and the aftermarket (not sure what brand) alarm was unplugged. It was unplugged a year ago and I never had any issues with it.

It looks like this, but my fuse box is on the other side of the steering column.
