car wont switch off even with key removed

someone please help me I have a civic v tec coupe now this was all fine untill recently when I parked and tried to switch off the car and nothing happened, the key turned and all but the engine light brake light remain on and the engine keeps running flawlessly the only time it dies is when I stall the car then pull out the negative from the battery
what do I need to do to resolve this please

Same thing happened on a 2010 EXL coupe that I just purchased. I walked away and noticed that the car was still running. My remote would not unlock the doors and had to use my key. I finally got the engine to shut off with the key in the ignition and pressed the brake pedal. Hasn't happened since yesterday but I have had the car for only 3 weeks.
