Cat Back Exhaust

I recently purchased a POS exhaust the Flowmaster Thunderbird. I went with it b/c I wanted a deep sound and was told it was a Cat-back. I was told that a cat back means from the cat back to the end of the car, this just bolts onto another pipe that is connected to the cat. Are all cat back exhuast like this?? I don't think it added as much as it said, said it added 12-15 hp, top end I feel a little but off the line I am steady with guys who have just exhuast and intake as i have intake, headers, and the POS exhaust, whast the deal??

Header > Cat. Converter > B-pipe > Muffler

so from the cat (converter) back is what "cat-back" means...

most catbacks are a lil restrictive, just not as much as stock thats all... and with a performance muffler...

no cat-back system is going to give you over 10hp to the wheels...

You got lied to and ripped off. A catback bolts directly onto the cat, and there is no chance in hell that you would get anything near 10 from an exhaust on your car. Now go kick some ass!

my future custom exhaust setup:

turbo downpipe > hi-flow cat > b-pipe -> straight thru racing resonator -> muffler of my choice

you'll get better power gains from the n1 than from the ws b/c it's straight though.. but ws power gains are more on the low-mid range with minor loss at top end.. and n1 is exact opposite

I'm not sure how environment-friendly it is to be driving a fossil-fuel-burning car in the first place ;)

Exhaust alone does VERY LITTLE for your car. If all the supporting mods are done first (intake, manifolds, plenums, header, high flow cat, maybe some fuel work) then adding the cat-back exhaust will help unleash some of the gains that those other mods would have allowed without the restrictive factory exhaust. These parts all have to work in concert with eachother. The only cars that see anywhere near the gains that the companies claim they'll see are cars that either have had all of the other mods performed first, thus turning your exhaust into a major bottleneck in performance, or those that have had a turbo/supercharger added, thus necessitating a less restrictive exhaust system to push out all of the extra air that the compressor jammed into your cylinders.

In reallity, there is very little you can do to gain hp. Usually when you see a gain, you are merely causing your motor to put more hp where you want it.... to the crank.

well, i have apexi n1.. sounds pretty good.. not too loud, imo, even tho it's considered one of the loudest.. my friend has a jic jdm exhuast and that s**t was loud.. n1 isn't too bad tho

4theengine has a point.. we are modding hondas.. gotta put a lot more money and work into the car to really make it fast.. internals, all the bolt-ons, fi, nitrous, etc.. but it's still nice to have a nice sounding car =)

Yes.... this is the whole point of an I/H/E upgrade. Not to increase HP output ability of your engine but to make it more efficient in converting it's power into work at the wheels. While modest, the I/H/E upgrade is one of the few HP upgrades that ALSO increases fuel economy (under similar driving conditions).

I don't think this is a bad thing. So long as one realizes that you aren't going to get a whole lot (like a piddling 10 HP if you're lucky) out of a I/H/E upgrade.

I just wish I could find good way to do a B16 swap without spending 80% of my car's value to do it.

No, all cat-backs are diffrent some take away ur top end and some add to ur top end i purchased a 5 zigen fireball exaust and it is great i have great acceleration of the line and in the top end i mean i am stock i can do a good 125-130 if i were you i would go with a 5 zigen, hayame, or even greddy
