catalytic converter question

i have a 96 lx and the catalytic converter is like $500. Is there a way to swap over to a cheaper universal or something ?

is there emissions where you live? If not just take that bish off and throw a test pipe on there.

If there is though just hit up your local muffler shop and ask em, it cost me $200 to get mine when it went out, so 500 sounds really outrageous to me.

yeah get a high flow cat at any muffler shop for the emmission if not get a test pipe like Melt said.

i had the same problem with my dx. we have the same exhaust manifold where the cat and the manifold are one piece. I replaced mine w/ a dc sport header and a high flow cat.

i got a test pipe drilled a hole in it and put hte thread part of my cat in it welded it in welded the flange on there basically a custom fab high flow cat haha and passed emissions if you can weld try it out

on my 2000 ex the cat converter was 1300 from honda!! i was like oh hell no..try to find someone selling a used one or something. salvage yards cant sell em due to regulations. you can get a nice hiflo for under 100 some universal some not. get one and take it to a muffler shop and get them to put it on if it is universal. but yea even 500 is crazy for just a cat with that you can get a nice ass cat back

if your going to get a test pipe does anybody know what to do with the check engine light??

theres some guy that i know on a forum that sells some kinda wire thing that makes it read differently. i am not exactly sure what it is but he was teling me something about it when my cat was gutted. i will try to find out and let you nkow..PM me

if you weld the thread wehre the o2 sensor goes and put it in should that make the engine light go off?

if you remove the o2 sensor or if its unplugged ... bam, check engine light.

I got a feeling welding it in there prob wont turn it off.

my cel was coming on after i got my highflow cat so i made my own o2 simulator. it's been on for 1k w/ no cel. i can make you one for $25. the only thing is you still have to leave your o2 sensor pluged in.

you guys were right i welded the thread from my old cat at school and screwed the o2 in and its still on should have read the your guys info before doing it
