I installed a Uniden PRO520xl in my civic (yes I know most of you think its stupid to have one in a civic) and I ran the antenna wire on the passenger side of the car, up the pillar with the seat belt to the roof where it connects to a 4ft black Firestik whip anntena mounted on the roof rack. when I transmit, my speedo gauge jumps like 20mph as if it were a meter of some sort, is it because the wire is run near the ECU or some other problem? will this cause any major problems with the car?
Thanks CC

Sounds like radio freq interference. When racing, push the talk button while launching and youll be ahead by twenty miles.

Any part of the bare metal attenna touching the chassis, causing some kinda electrical interference?

Back when I use to use my moto 14 channel radio, the am station buzzes like crazy.

Honestly, it doesnt really have to touch any part of the metal to cause radio freq interference with such electronics. If I were you , Id move the location of the transmitting attenna and run it through somewhere else, away from the ecu.

Take, for instance, my cheap motorola fm tranceiver. It causes AM interference when I transmit, and it also causes interference when transmitting near my television set. Its too close to the ecu.

na it doesnt pick up cop frequecies, your thinking of a scanner, usually the best is a Dual Trunking Scanner, they're a little more expensive
