CEL Code 8 and running HOT!

Hey all,

New to the forum and just purchased my first Honda Civic. Its a 1994 Civic DX Coupe and I paid $600 for it.

Heres my problem: Its running HOT after about 5 minutes or so of running and I pulled the check engine codes and got 8 very fast flashes a few second delay then 8 more fast flashes. That pattern repeats and repeats so I'm assuming it means I'm throwing a code 8? Which from what I've found is TDC sensor.

2 questions:

1.Can this cause my car to run hot?
2. Is my only way around the code 8 to replace the Distributor? (Could my timing just be off?)

Any insight appreciated, Thanks

Absolutely not.

Does the radiator fan run when the engine is hot?

Any coolant leaks? If not, replace the thermostat and bleed the cooling system. Then go from there.

A bad TDC sensor inside the distributor is only one of several possible causes for code 8. Start by measuring the resistance of the sensor. It should be 350-700 Ohms.
