I have a 97 civic and the CEL came on. I'm trying to find out the code using the paper clip trick but don't think I'm doing it correctly.
I already tried resetting the ECM by taking out the fuses like the how-to says, doesn't do anything, light stays on.
I've read several post about doing the paper clip trick and it seems like it depends on the generation of where the plug is located. I found one post that said to find the ECM plug underneath the drivers side dash, it's "grey" and jump number 8 and 13 pins. then turn key to start position and read the code.
When I do this I get a short flash of the CEL after 2 of the start beep sounds, then the last two. However, I get this when I don't jump them, meaning I don't think I'm doing the paper clip trick correctly.
I dont have a 'blue' plug on the passenger side, like I read or a light underneath the passenger side rug, I'm guessing this was for earlier generations. Anyway, just wondering if I could get some clarification on where they plug is exactly, what color it is, and what I need to jump,
thanx,
