CEL P0705 and P1259

Hello all ,

I have a 96 EX 1.6 with a VTEC.

Receiving 2 codes since yesterday morning. Got them read at Advanced Auto and watched the codes come to the screen.

P0705 - Has something to do with the Park / Neutral sending an error code. I plan o taking the center console apart looking for loose / broken wires etc etc. Any other suggestions / advice would be much appreciated.

P1259 - Has something to do with VTEC. I have to start off by saying I am not a car person. My interpretation of what VTEC means is, it boosts the engine when over a certain RPM, Since I am trying to conserve fuel and get the best MPG I try to keep it under 3000 rpm. With that said I have no clue if the VTECT option is actually working. I surfed the net and found many MANY reasons for this code.

1. Recently changed oil and put the wrong kind in. I did just recently change my oil. Used Havoline oil and it is not leaking nor is it low.
2. Dirty VTEC selenoid screen ? Don't even know where it is.
3. Some one even said after receiving this code their engine died ?

One car for sure was a 00 Accord the other car did not say what year or make / model etc etc at all.

Right now the codes are cleared. The guy said, which I knew, if the codes come right back it's major if it takes some time it could just be a hiccup. I drove the car around a bit and they have not come right back on.

I've owned this car for about 3 months now it is getting very decent mileage and runs fine, no rough idle etc etc even when the CEL light was on, so I'm pretty confused.

Any and all help is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
MP.

If the codes don't come back, I wouldn't worry about it.

If they do...

P0705 could be related to the park / neutral switch.

P1259 I would recommend first checking the Vtec solenoid. Ensure that it's plugged in.

It's the little bell looking thing towards the back of the motor on the left side (pretty much centered in the pic below=)

Thanks much.

They have been cleared since Fri and have not returned.

I did learn my VTEC solenoid does not work. It was seated properly but when I put an alligator clip on the inside harness and the other side to the positive side of the battery it does not click.

Thanks again,
MP.
