Change Key FOB Controller model?

I recently purchased a civic 1998 and it comes with a keyfob controller that only has 1 big button in the middle, and its really damaged and barely works, i have been searching around and looks like that the most common and cheap ones to get is the one with 2/3 buttons that is all around in ebay, would it still work with my car?

Does anyone know what is the process to re-synch these controllers or is there a how-to link?
