changin motor. do i need a new tune?

alright guys im swapping my motor out with the same thing. i currently have a z6 thats boosted and tuned.
oil pump went out and spun a bearing pretty sure. im and gettin another z6 and am goin to have everything the same like put my same plugs in and injectors and so on. should i need a new tune? should it be alright to not get another tune? let me know what you guys think.

you can use the same tune, but i would recommend retuning since the new z6 might be diff. in condition wise..

it couldn't hurt to get it tuned.

well lets say if the head he had before was all stock, and the new head that hes getting is port n polished or maybe a valve adjustment done to it. or maybe different cam and gear or maybe even if one head is older and has alot of sludge deposits in and around the springs and/or retainers, rockers, valves, etc.. this would cause resistance in the head itself making it harder to breathe.

get what im saying?


*then again, it wouldnt hurt to use the same tune, i just recommend a new tune because of the statement above.

why not just get a crank and get the same or H beam rods and put them in... ins tead of going for a whole new motor.... i replaced my crank and rods cuz i also spun a rod bearing

but hey if not then give me your old motor... lol i'm in PA too... SE tho

i would do that but im not 100% positive thats the only thing hurt in the motor. and since im not at home i dont have anyway to work on the car myself it has to go to the shop down the road. which also sucks cause im not a fan of other people workin on my car.

also goin to ask if the y8 motor is the same as mine cause now im lookin at gettin one of those since the one i was goin to get fell through. would that be okay to just drop in without changing the tune? is the y8 the same as the z6 besides like the distributer that i would have to change for the obd1?

y8 has higher compression than a z6 does. so a quick retune would be in the order. the compression is not that much different but to get the most out of it, i would get a retune.

Z6 - Y8 retune. like stated above, slightly higher compression, and the cam is a little different.

btw what specs u got on ur motor and wat kinda turbo man.... i'm very interested.... in august i'm going to pennstate main for skoo... currently at abington campus.... when i get up there hopefully everything good wit u and we can meet up or something man

ahh right now all it is is stock z6 with greddy 15g turbo reddy mani and d pipe. 440 injectors and 255 FP tuned with s300 at 10 psi. but it gows to the shop tomorrow to get the motor swapped for a non blown one that has arp head studs. and 0 miles on it. so after its broke in i wanna push the boost up a lil since i wont have to worry about blowin head gaskets with the studs and il have to get a new map sensor but no biggie.. but hell ya when you get here we should meet up. i havent met anyone out here for car s**t. seen a couple nice cars just not that many so i dont ever go out haha just chill. car hardly gets driven since i work and live in the same place.
