 :x :( i was told that when your check engine light comes on your engine goes into safe mode, so you wont get all your hp that you normally get when the cel is off. Is this true?

i was wondering the same thing, mine was on for a while when i had the o2 sensor removed. personally i didn't notice anything, but then again i didn't push my car when the light was on. i know on my friend's volvo 240dl (mean car by the way) when his light comes on it goes into a "limp home" mode. so i dunno.

Well if your RPMs stop at like around 5 it Sounds like you have a "VTEC System Failuar" due to low oil or your just driving your car to hard.

Yes, if the check engine light is on, it will not run to its peak performance. If it has say a bad O2 sensor it will run on a set spec which will allow it to run and not damage the convertor but it will not run very well. If there is a fault in the system, it can't run properly because something isn't telling the computer the info it needs.

Of course, difference codes will cause different problems in the way it runs but that is something different.
